Watercolor

Thoughts on Watercolor

Watercolor pigments have different properties-some are transparent, some are opaque and some granulate while drying. My preference is to use transparent pigments that allow light to penetrate the pigment to the paper and then bounce back to the eye. A luminosity and fragility result that is incomparable.

Increasingly, art patrons want no barrier between them and their art but that can now be circumvented with non-glare glass.

An artist paints with watercolor, flowing and changing in the moment and enjoying “happy accidents.” My personal preference is to pour or drop watercolor onto paper and allow it to move and mix freely, thereby taking advantage of it’s natural properties. It exhibits a freshness and luminosity that can’t be found with more controllable mediums like oil.
